Gastroparesis & Travel: My Best Tips

I know that for many people traveling after a gastroparesis diagnosis feels scary. But I’ve traveled extensively since I was first diagnosed in 2004 — from Alaska to Europe, and lots of places in between — and I promise, enjoyable trips are still possible. In the video below, I share what I bring for a short gastroparesis-friendly vacation to Florida and provide some general trips to help you prepare for your next trip.

Above all, keep in mind that stress isn’t inherent to traveling with gastroparesis. The stress we often feel around it is a result of a busy mind telling all kinds of stories about what might happen. None of those stories predict what will happen — and there’s nothing you can do about an imagined future that isn’t happening in this moment. What you can do is adequately prepare for likely scenarios (as I talk about in the video) and then go about your vacation. You’ll be more than capable of dealing with whatever arises when/if it actually arises.
